The directive was issued by Agnes Nabirye, the Resident District Commissioner, following complaints of torture by soldiers attached to NFA. Recently, the UPDF evicted over 100 people in Mpolwe village claiming that they had encroached on the forest land measuring 2,110 hectares. The residents had cut down all trees for charcoal.
National Forestry Authority in January 2016, ordered the affected people to vacate the piece of land measuring approximately 210 hectares in Abalokare, Dogikore and Amoilela villages in Amoilela parish, Bala Sub County. They were accused of alleged trespass on the reserve.
Residents of Chakulia village, Ludara Sub-County in Koboko district, whom the National Forest Authority [NFA] gave an ultimatum of February 27, 2012 to vacate Mt. Kei Forest Reserve, have threatened to petition President Yoweri Museveni over the decision.
