The 1,443km crude oil export pipeline will transport Uganda’s crude oil from Hoima in Uganda to the Chongoleani peninsula near Tanga port in Tanzania. More than 100 residents gathered near the Kikuube district headquarters, urging the government to suspend all EACOP activities.
The country is yet to finalise the National oil Spills Contingency Plan that would outline response in case of an oil spill on Lake Albert other lakes and Rivers.
Dr Callist Tindimugaya, the Commissioner, Water Resources Planning and Regulation says the study expected to begin before the end of the year, will also quantify the amount of water needed to have oil out of the ground.
