During the presentation of the results at State House Nakasero on Thursday, UNEB Executive Director Dan Odongo announced that 84,301 candidates (10.7% of the total candidates) earned Division One in 2024, a slight decrease from 86,582 candidates (11.7%) in 2023, out of 736,931 candidates who sat the exam that year.
Christine Kenema, Chairperson of MOGA, emphasized the need for the expansion, noting that despite the school’s strong academic reputation and 64 years of operation, it faces challenges with limited space to accommodate the growing number of students each year.
John Paul Kodet, the Napak LC V Chairperson says that some learners have been held back at home to help parents harvest crops in the gardens. “It’s the harvest season and some of our parents prefer keeping children at home to help them complete garden work,” he said.
At the concluded selection process for post lower secondary education, over 70 BTVET Institutes were present. However, each was allocated a maximum number of 50 students. The said number was fixed by the ministry and it matches the available capitation and other funding which government injects in such institutions.
A university probe team assigned to investigate the matter found Dr. Kanakulya in breach of the university rules, regulations and procedures. The team has recommended that Dr. Kanakulya be referred to the university Appointments Board for Disciplinary Action.
While finalizing his tour within Busoga sub-region in Iganga district on Friday, Ochola says that some officers have abandoned the core values of the institution which range from observance of human rights, and teamwork, which have affected the institution’s public image.
The University Council resolved that starting with the coming Academic Year 2018/19; all new students will be admitted to study at Makerere on either the day programme from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm or on the afternoon programme from 2:00 pm to 6:00pm.
