Nawangwe said the allegation about the University Council and the Appointments Board was unsubstantiated, adding that the move and the communication about the same, sent to Education and Sports Minister Janet Museveni were extremely arrogant, very disrespectful and provocative.
Prof Nawangwe argues that the suspension that runs until further notice is meant to ensure safety and security of members of the university community and property as well provide serene environment for peaceful activities of the university.
Stephen Katega, the Acting Dean of Students, says they are waiting for guidance from the bursar on how to proceed with the payment of the students allowances.
Andrew Abunyang, the Director Human Resources directed Nuwagaba to immediately hand over University properties to the college principal. Abunyang says upon on handing over, the Principal should give Nuwagaba a clearance letter to present to the University Bursar to enable processing of his dues and any monies that he may be owing the University.
The Makerere University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe, says the council directed them to overhaul all halls of residence in the university. He however, says they will give priority to Mary Stuart Hall, adding that University engineers are currently assessing the cost of the repair.
