The LC I Chairperson, Moses Kyahurwa told Uganda Radio Network that Byaruhanga’s lifeless body was found floating in the dam by area residents on Wednesday morning.
His father, Jimmy Aheebwa, says the minor drowned around 7 pm while trying to run away from a stray dog that had attacked him together with two other children.
It is alleged that Jarieko disappeared from his parent's home on Friday afternoon. This compelled the family members to mount a search for him in vain. Residents joined the family members in search of the missing boy without success.
The deceased's father, Okecha told URN that he was out of Buliisa district when he recieved the saddening news about the death of his son. “It is unfortunate that I have lost my child who was killed by lightning. I put everything before God because currently, I’m speechless and out of the district”, said Okecha.
The body of Ronald Kalule, a resident of Kinena Cell in Kakumiro town Council Kakumiro district was retrieved on Friday evening after a search by the locals and the police.
“My boys had gotten used to the classroom environment which kept them busy throughout the day, but since they are still in lower primary and are yet to return to school following the covid-19 lockdown restrictions, they had resorted to fishing as a means of making themselves productive,” their father says.
The deceased’s father, Ahmed Basenga, says the two other boys tried to save their colleague in vain. “They notified me after failing to rescue the deceased but it was too late for us to help him as his body had already flown to Nabidonga wetland,” he said.
They argue that that the affirmative action policy which awarded 1.5 bonus points to girls qualifying to enter public universities, remains insufficient to address equity issues, especially in science-related courses. As a result, they say, the current government merit scholarship for students in higher education is heavily bent in favour of male students.
The fire which began at 10:00 pm on Tuesday destroyed the dormitory block housing over 150 boys of Primary five and six. Several suitcases, books and mattresses were all burnt to ash.
According to Patrick Bamukunda Batukura, the Assistant Chief Commissioner in charge of Training at the Uganda Scouts Association –USA, the winning teams will be taken through training to ensure they win at regional level as well.
This year's camp was organised under the theme; “Living by the scout promise and law”. St Geralds Secondary School Nyakibaale became the overall winners for this year in the secondary school category followed by Rukungiri Primary Teachers College boys.
Dr. Nicholas Kwikiriza, the Acting Kikuube District Health Officer, says the samples taken from the deceased have tested negative for Ebola and other hemorrhagic fevers.
