The Office of the Prime Minister explains that 158,000 of the refugees initially on record are in unknown places, 34,000 are reported to have returned home, and 9,000 registered more than once. Another 3,000 were reported as deceased, 1,400 were Ugandans registered as refugees, and 55,000 are living in urban centers, away from the camps.
In more than 18 cases reported around Kampala Metropolitan Policing area, police verification teams have recovered several previously stolen vehicles that have been reportedly used during the escape of robbers and thieves. Five of these were recovered within the last one week.
Non Governmental Organisations NGOs have called on international donors to provide appropriate funding towards the refugee assistance in Uganda after biometric verification confirmed that Uganda hosts 1.1 million refugees.
Around Kisekka Market in downtown Kampala, less than 100 voters have so far been verified from a register of more than 1000 people. Verification started at 10:30 a.am but has been halted several times because of the chaotic crowd around the polling centres.
