In 2011, the Ministry of Works and Transport through a donation worth 1.9billion shillings from the Lake Victoria Environment Management Project-LAVEMP, undertook to construct a permanent market in Lukaya town council for hundreds of roadside vendors who operate from the area.
Last month, a section of councillors led by Edris Kigozi, a representative of the elderly persons tabled before the council a draft motion seeking to elevate Lukaya Town Council to a municipality.
He says that the population has more than doubled constraining the little resources the town gets from the central government which he says that greatly affects service delivery.
The new regulations were issued by Abraham Tukundane, the Kalungu District Police Commander at a public security meeting convened in Lukaya Town Council.
According to the regulations, all bars and night club will start operating at between 4 pm and closes 2 am.
In addition, sports betting shops have also strictly been allowed to operate between 03pm and 10pm.
