Five residents, who include Esther Ocepa, Lucy Olong, Milly Apio, and Emily Akii among others, issued a notice of intention to sue to accuse the municipal authorities of trespassing.
Geoffrey Ogwal, the Speaker Lira Municipality, says they have resolved to invite the State House Anti-Corruption Unit to investigate what happened to the money.
Four other Lira Municipal Officials are also facing trials including the deputy Town Clerk, Patrick Ogweng, Mayor, Ogwang Olwa, Engineer Fred Owiny among others.
Ogweng, whose arrest was sanctioned by Lt Col. Edith Nakalema, the Commandant of the State House Anti-Corruption Unit last week, is wanted for commissioning and supervising the handover of a contract for the management of Lira Coronation Park to Saving Grace Investment in disregard of procurement laws.
Assy Abireebe, Lira Municipality town clerk said the four councillors each received 350,000 shillings as allowance, but didn’t travel. He says that they may be forced to recover the money from their emoluments if they failed to comply with the directive.
