A number of workers were sent on Forced leave with a pay of 500,000 Shillings a month, to sustain them during this period. Several others were terminated in a decision, which according to the company’s Chief Executive Robert Kabushenga, was in response to the changed media industry circumstances.
The company says it will pay full salary for April 2020. However, it will effect gross salary reduction effective May 2020. Some 60% will be cut from those earning above Shs 19m. Those earning between Shs 8m and 19m will take a 45% cut. Those earning below Shs 8m will take a 40% salary cut.
The Persons with Disabilities Act, 2018 provides, among others, that all newscasts on public and private television stations must have a Ugandan sign language interpreter, to facilitate communication for people with hearing impairments. The task combines signing, finger spelling, and specific body language translated between a spoken and a signed language.
