In October 2021, the suspects together with Gideon Tumwebaze, the chairperson of the TULIPONA veterans Association who is currently on the run allegedly connived and forged Omukama Iguru’s signature to grab the land.
During the hearing, Hamidu Lugoloobi accused the applicant of lying because the available evidence shows that he was in court and personally signed the consent document that was later endorsed by Justice Nambayo. Lugoloobi said the consent was done in the presence of Kalali and his lawyers, Earnest Isaac Muwanga and Geoffrey Mutyaba.
Their lawyer, Anthony Wameli told the Nabweru Grade one Magistrate, George Mfitundinda this morning that his court lacks territorial jurisdictions to try the matter. He explained that prosecution alleges that his clients committed the said crimes in Mpondwe Boarder town in Kasese District and Nasser Road in Kampala, arguing that they cannot be tried in Nabweru.
The suspects have reportedly been charging their victims between Shillings 150,000 and 600,000 per truck loaded with the illegal timber products. Lakony says the two are most likely to face interdiction if found guilty of the allegations.
