According to the Mubende district community development officer Maria Ndagire, they are facing a challenge of a place where they can detain the children below the age of 18 years and most of the time, they are put in custody with the old inmates which she says is not good.
Mubende, just like many other towns along highways in Uganda, is struggling with the challenge of prostitution involving young girls. The major streets in the town turn into brothels as soon as it gets dark.
Located on Mubende Hill, Nakayima Cultural Site is the home to the renowned Nakayima Tree, which is said to have supernatural powers for healing, fertility, wealth and good health. The tree, considered an important part of African Spirituality, gets its name from a beautiful spiritual princess Nakayima, who allegedly disappeared in it.
