“The recommended candidate for Principal MakCHS, has never been Chair/ Head of Department, but has been a substantive Dean (School of Medicine) for only three months, having service previously as Deputy Dean –a position that does not exist in the University Structure,” say staff of the college in their petition to council.
According to the report, the search committee arrived at the candidates after a series of activities that included shortlisting, assessing candidates’ documents, review of Human Resource record, candidates’ profiles and face-to-face interviews as well as public presentations.
Dr Kanakulya, a lecturer of Philosophy and Human Rights in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences –CHUSS at Makerere University was found in breach of university academic rules after he assigned a student to teach fellow colleagues for an entire month.
A university probe team assigned to investigate the matter found Dr. Kanakulya in breach of the university rules, regulations and procedures. The team has recommended that Dr. Kanakulya be referred to the university Appointments Board for Disciplinary Action.
The Assistant Lecturers want to recover salary arrears from the Financial Year 2015/2016 to date, retirement benefit arrears, salary reinstatement, damages and costs of the suit from Makerere. The value of the claim is approximately Ugx. 8Billion.
