Museveni who was presiding over the 31stcoronation anniversary of Omukama Solomon Gafabusa Iguru 1 of Bunyoro Kitara kingdom on Wednesday in Hoima City said that the government restored cultural institutions to promote culture, harmony, peace and also mobilize subjects for social economic transformation.
The King was airlifted to Kampala on October 17, 2024, after his health deteriorated. He was admitted to Ruby Hospital, where he was discharged on October 21, 2024, after responding well to treatment.
Eng. Fred Mugenyi Rucunya, the Okwiri (Chief Prince) of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom said that the King’s health deteriorated and they mobilized and airlifted him to Kirudu Hospital in Kampala for specialized medical attention. He however did not divulge more details.
This meeting, chaired by Bishop George William Kasangaki of Masindi Kitara Diocese, took place at the Gulu University Hoima-Campus offices located within the Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom Administration Block in Hoima City
In October 2021, the suspects together with Gideon Tumwebaze, the chairperson of the TULIPONA veterans Association who is currently on the run allegedly connived and forged Omukama Iguru’s signature to grab the land.
Iguru says Bunyoro and Acholi Kingdoms have strong cultural relationships and therefore, the death of Oulanyah is equally felt in Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom.
It is alleged that Tumwebaze presented a letter dated October 4, 2021, allegedly signed by Omukama Iguru and addressed to Florence Kiconco, the head of the legal department at State House indicating that the King had offered him land measuring 2000 acres to utilize.
“How can these attacks happen and no action is being taken by the government? Since 2018 my subjects have been suffering, they are being put on gunpoint before they are robbed. These cases are all being reported to the relevant government security agencies but no any action is taken to save my people.” -Omukama Iguru.
