According to a statement released by Anthony Baffoe by CAF Deputy General Secretary in charge of football and development, the reasons of the postponement were based on the poor conditions of some stadiums in Africa and the restrictions related to COVID-19.
"The CAF Emergence committee in consultation with the FIFA, decided to postpone the CAF qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 that were due to be played in June 2021 after taking into consideration the current challenges caused by the COVID 19 pandemic and the need to ensure the optimal conditions for all participating teams". This follows the suspension of the Chadian Football Federation by the Chadian Ministry of Youth and Sports, according to a press release dated March 22, 2021. It is signed by CAF Communications Director Alexandre Siewe.
Magogo was elected to represent the Central East Zone during the CAF Ordinary General Assembly held at the Marriot Hotel in Cairo, Egypt on Thursday. Magogo, the FUFA President collected 33 votes, while the incumbent and former CECAFA President Leodeger Tenga had 19 votes.
