In his resignation letter, dated October 8th, 2024, addressed to DP Secretary General Dr. Siranda Blacks, Nalukoola stated, "The refusal and/or failure by the Party’s Secretary General to convene a National Council Meeting, as demanded by party members, has undermined the party’s democratic processes and the voices of our constitution."
While addressing journalists on Sunday in Kampala, the Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister Nobert Mao said that they are planning to regulate how the disputes should be handled and that government has already drafted a policy to this effect.
Key among the issues cited by Mao include improving the quality of education, health especially an overhaul of Soroti Regional Referral Hospital and streamlining security.
Mao, who came fourth with 55,665 votes in the just concluded presidential elections, said they will focus on rebuilding the party after the disappointing and irregular elections. According to Mao, DP will embark on creating a new member's register to differentiate between party members and supporters and weed out those against the party.
Mao says that the directive is illegal. He explains that the EC did not follow the lawful procedure since it was supposed to be the Ministry Of Health to issue the directive.
The party’s top leadership is struggling to constitute campaign coordination committees for their presidential candidate in districts of the greater Masaka sub-region as more of their lower structure leaders decline to take up the responsibilities in favour of the National Unity Platform’s NUP presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu.

Mao’s leadership has filed a suite before the High Court Civil Division against Rajab Senkubuge and his faction, Democratic Party Uganda. In his application through his lawyers, Semuyaba, Iga and Company Advocates, Mao wants court to quash Justice Bashaija’s decision that paved way for the said elections.
Dick Ssebbowa, the Rakai District Mobilisation Secretary, says the top party organ acted on selfish grounds and machinations, which led to an illogical decision that endangers the party values.
Mao cautioned the members especially the youth against being taken up by the excitement of a pressure group,which he says is not premised on clear principals.
Chameleon says that his participation in Tubonga Naawe project was entirely business, not politics. But he promised to put the same and more effort in the struggle to liberate Uganda from the current leadership.
