The Uganda Cranes interim head coach Abdallah Mubiru, who conducted the training with his assistants Livingston Mbabazi and Fred Kajoba, said some of the players didn’t show up because they hadn’t received their COVID-19 test results.
The notable absentees in the squad include goal keeper Salim Jamal who has been deputizing Denis Onyango on the team, Joseph Ochaya, Nicholas Wadada, Khalid Aucho, Farouk Miya and Kizito Luwagga, all these were part of the recent Uganda Cranes that played in the Afcon qualifiers.
Speaking to URN during their last training session at Phillip Omondi Stadium, the Uganda Cranes Interim Coach Abdallah Mubiru said there is literally a very slim chance for Patrick Kaddu and Fahad Bayo to take part in the do or die match.
Coach Abdallah Mubiru says that the spirits are high in the camp. He adds that there is no time to replace the absent players because he is confident that the available players in the camp will perform well.
Ex-international and football administrator, Mujib Kasule, says that he was not surprised with FUFA’s decision because of the last poor performance by the team. He says the coach made obvious errors in the last Afcon fixture against South Sudan that delayed Uganda’s qualification for Afcon finals.
Kasingye who is currently in isolation after testing Covid19 postive also believes this re union will help both the player and coach to restore the greatness of the player.
Uganda Cranes have been drawn to face Somalia in the first round before they face the winner between Burundi and South Sudan in the final phase of the qualifiers.
