Gerald Irikot, the LC-1 Chairperson Amorwongora Village in Ngariam Parish is being blamed by Christians for the fire that resulted into the loss of their worship place on the eve of Ash Wednesday.
Katakwi District Police Commander, David Wills Ndaula, says that they picked up the suspects on a tip-off by residents during a security operation involving the police, the Anti Stock Theft Unit and Uganda People’s Defense Forces in Abela area.
The Zonal Manager, Micro Finance Support Center in Soroti, Simon Peter Egiriat says that said that each SACCO will each receive 30 million shillings while the elected SACCO leaders will get 50 million to boost their livelihoods as directed by the President’s Office.

Amuriat who is currently canvassing for support in Katakwi District was moved by the high levels of poverty and suffering by people in the area. The residents told Amuriat in Kapujan Sub County that they are living in poverty because they don’t have money to buy food and other basic needs like soap and salt.
According to the report, Katakwi Town Council leads with 190 cases, followed by Magoro with 188, Usuk Sub County 177, Katakwi Sub County 137, Ongongoja Sub County with 115 cases, Ngariam 89, Kapujan 87 and Omodoi 100 while Palam Sub County registered the least number with eleven cases.
At least five people were injured and admitted to Katakwi General Hospital following the violence that ensued between supporters of the incumbent Woman MP, Violet Akurut Adome and former Education Minister, Jessica Alupo.
Immediately after the NRM party Electoral Commission called for elections in Okore Sub County, on local radio stations in Teso, supporters of Alupo and Akurut turned violent leading to the arrest of 18 people who are detained at Katakwi Police Station.
John Imaikorit, the Palam Village LC I Chairperson in Palam Sub County, says a total of 310 households are affected by the floods, which submerged their houses and gardens.
The deceased identified as Teresa Akiror, a resident of Apule Village in Kapujan Sub County was killed by a stray bullet when violence ensued between the supporters of Elakas and Joseph Andrew Koluo, who were both contesting for Toroma County NRM Flag. The two contenders lost the race to Julius Ossiya.
David Ongom Mudong, the Police Spokesman for East Kyoga says the victims were hit by stray bullets as the Police and UPDF officers deployed at the Polling Station tried to quell the rowdy crowds.
The move stems from Saturday’s violence where supporters of former Education Minister, Jessica Alupo Epel were attacked by supporters of her rival, Akurut. Three people were later hospitalized in Katakwi General Hospital after sustaining injuries.
The clashes between supporters of the incumbent, Violet Adome Akurut and former Education Minister, Jessica Alupo occurred in Katakwi Market area as some of the attacked boda- boda cyclists for carrying posters of candidates.
Samson Ojune, another cattle trader wants the government to allow them continue operating because they have endured poverty since they depend on livestock as a source of income.
Serephine Alia, the Chief Administrative Officer, says that the district has been relying on one ambulance of Usuk MP, Peter Ogwang to handle all the emergencies in the district, which overwhelmed its operations.
The conflict emanates from a piece of land measuring about 300 hectares where Iteso community have settled inside Napak district, along the border point. It is alleged that after selling land to the Iteso, some of the Bokora elites including local leaders mooted plans to recover the said land.
Julius Otim, the Secretary Veterans Affairs in Katakwi district, says they have equally labored to have the ex-soldiers paid but nothing seems to come fourth. He says there are more than 1,000 veterans in the district whose gratuity hasn’t been paid for reasons best known to the responsible ministries.
