The procurement of the weighbridges follows several calls from different stakeholders over the absence of proper measures to determine taxes from the minerals and also to help control the load on the trucks to protect roads from damage.
Frank Baine, the Uganda Prison Spokesman says the new changes are expected to provide safety measures in the management of prisoners in Moroto. He notes that the changes were communicated by the Commissioner-General of Prisons during his visit to the facility.

A section of the community now lives in fear especially about the firearms that are in the wrong hands. Dinah Ayo, a resident in Moroto town says the loose firearms could be used by the escapees to perpetuate more crime, not only in Moroto but anywhere in the country.
Only a staff deployed as data clerk at the prisons regional office was in the office this morning while the rest of the team was locked up at Moroto Prison premises. Since Thursday, access to Moroto Prisons has been restricted, with tight security comprising four officers manning the main gate at day time. This is different from the other ordinary days where one person would be seen at the gate.
The locusts have been reported in Amudat at Kosike; Kakomongole sub-county in Nakapiripirit district; Lolachat and Lopeduru areas in Nabilatuk district; Tukum, Palam and Ngariam in Katakwi district; Magamaga, Alerek and Abim sub-counties in Abim district; Kobebe and Nakabaat in Moroto district and Adinga in Agago district.
According to Dr. Inangolet, the awareness campaign will be implemented in all Sub Counties to ensure that the community is involved in the surveillance mechanism against the desert locusts. The campaign stems from the threat of the desert locusts, which are already wreaking havoc in the neighboring Kenya.
According to Moroto Boda- Boda association chairman, Simon Peter Korobe, rampant attacks on Boda- Boda cyclists started last month and three riders were attacked in a space of one week and their bikes stolen by the assailants.
