Besigye is jointly charged with Captain Denis Oola, 48, from the armored brigade, and Hajji Obeid Lutale, aged 65. The three individuals are accused of five offenses. The first offense involves charges related to national security under Section 128(1)(f) of the UPDF Act.
The petitioners claim that the trial is in contempt of the December 15, 2022, orders of the Constitutional Court of Uganda, which barred the trial of civilians in military courts. They argue that the military tribunal's jurisdiction is limited to trying military personnel and not civilians, and that the trial of civilians in a military tribunal violates the principles of good governance, democracy, and rule of law.
Kyagulanyi also expressed disappointment with the Kenyan government, stating that it has transformed from a haven for oppressed individuals into an operational zone for the Ugandan regime.
The FDC situation in the region has been made worse by the exodus of all the three party MPs, who have now become independent candidates after internal conflicts following the party’s presidential elections in 2017.
Besigye said that it is a mistake, first of all, to think that the homeschooling program can yield results in Uganda. He also expressed worry that private schools can be left to 'die' under the guise that government schools will cover the gap.
