Byabakama's explanation follows a letter written to him by members of NURDP querying the manner in which the name and the leadership of their party had changed. The members questioned the entire extraordinary delegates conference allegedly held on 14/07/2020 and attended by only 51 unverified members out of a delegate’s member list of 400 delegates.
“Government is paying money on a decentralized system for the Organisation. We have to know what happens in the districts. Why can’t some of these services be executed in the districts? Why do you have to bring the whole Uganda here [in Kololo] and expose our weaknesses?” Biribonwa questions why all services are being offered at the Kololo-based NIRA headquarters.
According to Justice Ssekaana, he will jointly hear the suits filed by City Lawyer, Male Mabirizi and 14 leaders from the “People’s Government’ on December 12 since they appear to have similar facts. He explains that it was necessary to consolidate the suits to avoid duplicity and multiplicity.
Electoral commission has opposed the proposal that elections in newly created districts and constituencies should be halted until the next round of general elections. The proposal is among several others in the Parliamentary Elections Amendment Bill, 2019.
