Kalali contests Section 115 of the Penal Code Act, which criminalizes indecent assaults and insulting the modesty of a woman or girl, punishable by 14 years or 1-year imprisonment, respectively.
The suspects include D/ASP Ali Katende, David Kihara Muthoni (28), Samuel Njeru (36), both Kenyan nationals, and Juma Musisi (28). They are accused of stealing 21,600kgs of coffee beans valued at 383 million Uganda Shillings.
The case was scheduled for hearing on Tuesday before Chief Magistrate Ronald Kayizzi. However, in his absence, Grade One Magistrate Jalia Basajjabalaba presided over the session and adjourned the matter to December 9, 2024, citing the Chief Magistrate’s indisposition.
The charges stem from a violent attack on fellow Chinese investors Liu Qingshan (63) and Lu Hanbin (32), owners of the Ugandan NEC-WATU Automobile Group, on September 18, 2024, at their apartment in Namanve Industrial Park.
The court heard that between January 2021 and December 2022, Mugisha failed to remit social contributions and statutory penalties amounting to over 264 million shillings to the NSSF.
The judgement in Kwoyelo's case is set to be delivered by a Trial panel of four judges consisting of Justices Michael Elubu, Duncan Gaswaga, Stephen Mubiru, and Andrew Bashaija.
Prosecution told court that on September 18th, 2019 while at Mabito in Nateete in Rubaga Division, the accused persons including 70 women and 65 men were found with smashed and rolled sticks of marijuana ranging from 18 to 40 without lawful excuse.
