Kate Kiiza, the Executive Director of DFCU Bank, says that the platform is designed to empower farmers by providing real-time, localised, and actionable climate-related information. She notes that this will improve resilience and decision-making in farming practices.
Held at Prime Agro Farm in Zirobwe Sub-County, the event emphasized the urgent need for Ugandan farmers to transition from subsistence and raw produce sales to practices that extend shelf life, increase market value, and ultimately enhance profitability.
Reagan Komakech, a Boda –Boda Rider in Gulu City borrowed a motorcycle loan and has been paying a weekly amount of 70,000 for the last one year and two months. According to Komakech, he is still left with over 2 million shillings to complete the loan but unable to raise the required 70,000 shillings during the lockdown.
The newly introduced agency system is meant to more workers, especially in the informal sector join the fund and also encourage voluntary contributors by taking services closer to them.
The second phase later in the year will see NSSF services offered through the banks agencies which number more than 10,000 countrywide.
