Addressing the media at the Uganda Media Centre in Kampala this morning, Musa Ecweru, Uganda’s Minister of State for Disaster Preparedness and Rosa Malango, the United Nations representative in Uganda, said, whereas Uganda has an open-door policy for refugees and asylum seekers, they have suspended receiving of new arrivals with immediate effect for a period of 30 days.
The Luseshe County Member of Parliament, Godfrey Watenga told Uganda Radio Network that as MPs from Bugisu region, they advised government to pay the affected people money so that they can relocate but it didn’t listen to them.
Ecweru was shocked to discover that the school that was established in 2018 hosts more than 7000 pupils in 11 classrooms manned by 26 teachers. According to Ecweru, the high number of pupils makes it difficult for children to access quality education desired by government.
