Led by the new Bujjagali oracle, Hassan Kirunda, the traditional healers from different districts of Busoga Sub region converged on Wednesday to construct a shrine following the death of the 39th Bujjagali oracle “Nabamba Budhagali,” late last year.
Joseph Kawulula, a traditionalist from Namayingo district, says the contested land belongs to the spirits. He asks kingdom officials to support their efforts to construct a shrine rather than block their request.
Kirunda was on Sunday morning confirmed as the new oracle of Bujjagali falls, replacing the deceased Budhagali Nabamba who served the said spirits for the past 60 years. He had allegedly spent 10 days on Budhagali island, prior to his confirmation as the choice of the spirits.
The children accuse the traditionalists led by Kezia Kulanama of forcing them to join their father’s faith adding that the traditionalists have refused to vacate their home located in Budhagali village, Jinja district, close to a month after their father’s burial.
According to traditionalists, the heir to the ‘throne’ is required to take full custody and control of his predecessor’s wife and children and cater for their wellbeing.
This afternoon, a section of traditionalists led by Mukisa Mutyaba who refers to himself as the leader of traditionalists in the country accused Jjumba Lubowa, the leader of “Tondism", a traditional faith group of failure to fulfill the rituals of the gods.
Kulanama adds that Budhagali will be buried at his home in Budhagali village, Jinja district where a mini library with selected historical texts shall be set up to promote both local and international tourism of their traditional faith.
