Joy Kabarokore, one of the evictees, says that during the eviction, she was brutally beaten by the security personnel when she demanded to know why they were being evicted from the land, which they have occupied for years.

The floods displaced thousands of people in Butiaba and Kigwera Sub counties and Butiaba town council in Buliisa district since March 2020.

On Sunday, the Prime Minister, Robinah Nabbanja met some of the flood victims at Butiaba and Wanseko landing sites in Buliisa district and assured them that the government will soon find land to resettle them.

Simon Agaba Kinene, the Buliisa LCV Chairperson says that they have submitted several reports to the government through the office of the prime minister for intervention in vain.

More than 4,000 people in Ndaiga Sub County were displaced from their homes because of floods resulting from increased water levels of Lake Albert.

Following the floods, the displaced victims sought shelter at Butiaba, Bugoigo and Wanseko Primary Schools among others, where they are still living up to date.

The victims now want the government to acquire land and have them resettled since the floods are not likely to end soon and could affect their livelihoods for many years.

The four; Agnes Fambe, Paulina Issa, Clement Atugonza and Fortunate Mwambe, all residents of Kilyango in Buliisa district, were part of a family of nine that allegedly eat food which was laced with poison a week ago. Five of the relatives died from Buliisa Hospital where they had been rushed after developing complications.

The Deputy Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango says that if more people died during the protest as the Legislator alleges, then he should prove the allegations or even tell the public where the said people were buried than putting up false claims.

Doreen Asiimwe, who was shot in the left leg, says besides the pain she feels she is worried about the future of her family if she remains in her current condition. According to Asiimwe, she is the sole bread winner of her family from her saloon business, which she cannot attend to now.

Domiano Kijaguzo, the Bugangari Sub county Chairperson, says residents armed with stones, machetes and spears ran after the stray buffalo from Bugangari trading Centre with intentions to kill it.
