Rose Lilly Akello has bounced back to Parliament as Kaabong Woman MP after beating Christine Tubo Nakwang in the by-election held on Monday. Akello, who is on the ruling NRM party ticket, polled a total of 21,814 votes against Tubos 21,558 votes. Judith Adiaka Nalibe of the opposition FDC party trailed with 593 votes.

Vote counting has started in the Kaabong woman parliamentary by-election, an exercise that has attracted a high turn up.

Hundreds of voters were seen lining up as early as 7 a.m. the long queues continue to be seen at most polling stations across the district.

They include Tubo Nakwang Christine- who is contesting as an independent candidate, Rose Lilly Akello- a member of the ruling National Resistance Movement- NRM party and Judith Adiaka Nalibe- from the opposition Forum for Democratic Change FDC party.

Forty-three suspected Karimojong warriors who fled disarmament a decade ago have voluntarily surrendered to the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) in Kaabong district. This brings the number of warriors surrendering to 59 after 16 others recently handed themselves in to the army.

The incident happened last week at Nameri Bridge, connecting Kaabong Town council to Kaabong East Sub County, some 256 kilometres north west of Moroto town. Five people including a driver and four passengers were swept away after the vehicle they were traveling in suddenly halted into a fast-flowing river at the bridge.

Joseph Midi, the District Chairperson Kaabong confirms the death saying the tragedy resulted from the vehicle engine that went off in the middle of the overspill, building weight on the car subsquently forcing it to submerge into the water.

A total of 120 cows have been paid out to two Karimojong families as compensation from Turkana pastoralists for mistakenly killing their relatives in Kaabong district.
