Buruuli Chiefdom Prime Minister Samuel Kasirye says that they want the land probe committee to investigate and recommend that the land, currently possessed by Buganda, be returned to Buruuli. His petition dated June 7, 2017 was submitted to Land probe secretariat in Kampala.
Tumukunde said the decision was the most viable option to diffuse renewed tensions between Buganda Kingdom and Buruuli Chiefdom loyalists. Tensions between the two cultural groups were sparked off by a fire that destroyed parts of the Palace two weeks ago.
Recently, Buruuli Chiefdom released a budget of Shillings 96 million for the coronation anniversary celebrations scheduled for Saturday December 10. The organisers have also planned for a week of activities ahead of the coronation.
Notable among the advisors is Muruli Mukasa, the Central government Minister for Gender, Labour and Social Development, Presidential Press Secretary Tamale Mirundi and Nakasongola Woman MP Margaret Komuhangi. Although he gave no reason for dismissing the ministers, sources said it stemmed from cabinet refusal to endorse his personal proposal to make the Buruuli cultural throne hereditary.
The Office of the President of Uganda has transferred the Nakasongola Resident District Commissioner amidst tension ahead of a visit by Katikiro of Buganda Kingdom Charles Peter Mayiga. Swahib Lubega Waggwa, the Nakaasongola Resident District Commissioner, received a letter yesterday ordering him to hand over the office to his replacement Apollo Bwambale.
Buganda and Buruuli have been at loggerheads for a longtime, with the latter preferring to pay its allegiance to Bunyoro Kingdom. The chiefdom which was originally part of Bunyoro was parceled to Buganda by the British as a reward for supporting the colonialists in the fight against the &amp;amp;acirc;&amp;iuml;&amp;iquest;&amp;frac12;&amp;iuml;&amp;iquest;&amp;frac12;stubborn entity.'
The Cultural Leaders of Buruli Chiefdom have petitioned President Yoweri Museveni accusing Buganda Kingdom of failure to respect the chiefdomâ€™s autonomy and breaching the recent Memorandum of Understanding signed between Mengo and Central government.
The Buruuli chiefdom has welcomed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between Buganda Kingdom and Central Government. Last week President Yoweri Museveni handed over to the Buganda officials a MOU that he and Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi signed on the return of the kingdom properties.
