James Onono Ojok, the University’s Assistant Public Relations Officer disclosed to URN that following closure of education institutions by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on May 7, public demand especially from the returning students overstretched the facility and exhausted the available resources.
Grace Aninge, the Principal of the College says they want to use their space in both campuses to manage social distancing rules as a recommended standard operation procedure (SOP).
Dr Paska Apiyo, a Physician and the Head of Case Management at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital says that the escapees have exploited the lax security at the facility to sneak out. She added that the escape is also aided by special hire drivers within the precincts of the hospital, who often drive them swiftly without being noticed.
They include one physician; six clinicians, 12 nurses and 12 hygienists. The hygienists are charged with day to day cleaning of the treatment facility including laundry services across the 100 expanded bed capacity unit.
The COVID-19 case management team headed by Dr. Paska Apiyo is overstretched and the reinforcement by WHO is expected boost their concerted effort in healthcare delivery.
