The suspects, identified as Nichola Wamani (20), Expedito Tindyebwa (48), and Luke Kaahwa (37), all residents of Kichope village, Ruguse parish in Bugambe sub-county, were arrested on Friday from various locations within the sub-county.
The suspects are Julian Kusemererwa 21, a resident of Kisaka village in Kisukuma parish, Kisukuma sub county and Zam Kyakua 66, a resident of Kigorobya 2 cell in Kigorobya town council. They were arrested on Tuesday afternoon.
The suspects with others still at large waylaid Kanodia in Kiryandongo 1 Cell, Kiryandongo town council on Sunday at 10:50 p.m. as he was returning home from Kiryandongo town.
The suspects, whose particulars have been concealed for fear of jeopardising police investigations, are accused of killing John Mugarula, a resident of Ntalaga cell in Rutete town Council in Kagadi district. The incident happened on Sunday night.
The suspects are Zapayi Ndagigimana 42, Samuel Niyigena 24 and Patience Mujawimana, all residents of Kabubwa East LC1, Kitutumwa parish, Kibijjo sub county in Kakumiro district. They are accused of murdering Richard Bagonza of the same area.
The suspects have been identified as John Ayesiga, the Chairperson of Tukole Hamu PDM Group in Muramura Village, and Edward Irumba, the LC1 Chairperson for Muramura Village in Kitamba parish in Bwijanga sub county.
They are accused of murdering Tadeo Tukundane 22, a resident of the same area. It is alleged that around 11 pm on Christmas day the trio connived and severely beat their victim for unknown reasons leaving him in a coma. He sustained deep cuts on the head and neck.
The suspects were attending a birthday party organized by Joachim Ategeka in contravention of the ban on social gathering as part of the COVID-19 containment measures.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region Police spokesperson told Uganda Radio Network on Monday that some of the motorists were arrested while trying to sneak with passengers to other districts especially during the night hours, while others were found operating beyond 9pm.
Health officials and the COVID-19 Taskforce in the district placed the suspects under quarantine on June 26, 2020, after they were suspected to have come into close contact with a 30-year-old man who tested positive for the virus in the district.
The suspects include 331 from Masindi Police Barracks, 22 from Masindi Hospital, 43 from Masindi Public Primary School, 34 from Masindi Army Barracks and 26 from Kabalega Secondary School.
