“The two police officers were responding to an alleged complaint by two victims who claimed they had been robbed of proceeds from their tomato business. One of them identified himself as Kananya Sulaiman of Nansana in Wakiso District who was putting on dirty clothes alleged that the public had arrested one whom they were threatening to lynch and he asked the police to immediately intervene,” Kawala said.
According to Kasasira, the officers opened fire to stop the duo that was riding with another person on the truck after they refused to stop at the Weigh bridge. He says the officers first shot at the tyres and in the air but one of the bullets hit Katuramu in the chest while another caught Bimanyirwoha on the head.
During the funeral, the Bwera Division Police Commander, Sadat Sabila told mourners that the Inspector General of Police, Martin Okoth Ochola had directed the force to contribute Shillings 5 million towards the burial expenses as investigations into the matter are ongoing.
