Gideon Tugume, the secretary for information in Kibalama's camp, says that their delegate's conference held on May 27th, 2022 resolved to end the relationship between the people power movement and the NUP leadership.
Addressing Journalists at the party headquarters in Kamwokya, a Kampala city suburb, John Baptist Nambeshe, the NUP vice president Eastern Region, said that deployed forces are most likely to repeat the same mistakes of looting natural resources that occurred in the late 1990s that saw penalties sanctioned against Uganda government.
Roadblocks have been mounted around all access roads in the precincts of the NUP offices and the main old Kira Road. No pedestrian, cyclist or vehicle is allowed to use the Old Kira Road stretch from Kamwokya to Bukoto, an area now surrounded by heavily armed police, local defence and military personnel.
Kyagulanyi claims that the Declaration of Results forms that the party collected, when tallied, clearly indicate that he won the 14th January election with 54.19%. The Electoral Commission announced National Resistance Movement -NRM’s President Museveni winner of the 2021 election with 58.64%. But according to NUP’S audits, Museveni scored only 34.83%.
"Since the 15th of last month our offices have been under siege there is no activity we can carry from there, we have written to the Inspector General of Police, the Electoral Commission chairperson, but they are also waiting for the orders from above. This is unconstitutional,” said David Lubongoya, the NUP Secretary-General.
At the Kyebando Road Junction where a number of policemen and military are manning the roadblock all motorcyclists and pedestrians are directed to use other roads leading in and out of the city. Kamwokya residents say the heavy military and police presence has paralyzed business.

However, as voters lined up at the back of their favourite candidates, Patience Lule and Nasif Musoke, Nambooze arrived at the election venue and ordered non-party members to leave the line. The directive triggered a bitter argument between the voters and Nambooze until she accepted all people who were gathered at the station to vote.
The vetting process which started last week, on Tuesday had to close on Sunday with the declaration of winners. However, participants in the municipality have since been waiting for results until today when they were told that the process was marred by irregularities which affected the outcome.
