Wilson Kabale, one of the butchers in Kuushu town council who was around at the time of constructing the slaughter slab, says that they want to pay the owner of the land hosting the slab Shillings 5000 for each animal slaughtered but he demanded Shillings 20,000, which they couldn’t afford.
Bududa LC V Chairperson, Milton Kamoti Wasunguyi, says this prompted them to seek an explanation from the Works Ministry as to why the contractor abandoned the road sites.
Titus Kusolo, the Bumayoka Sub county LC III Chairperson, says that they had given up on the project because of stalling for a long time, adding that they shall now work with the contractor to ensure the project is completed as planned.
Fred Wambewo, a driver on the Mbale-Bududa route, says that most roads in the district need to be rehabilitated to make them motorable. He said initially it used to take them 40 minutes to drive from Mbale to Bududa but it now takes more than 2 hours because of poor roads.
According to him, a total of 20 cases have been referred to his office for mediation in two months since he came to Bududa as RDC with most of the cases unsolved.
In March 2019, Ministry of Health contracted Geomax Engineering Company to build a maternity ward, three stance pit latrine and placenta pit at the facility. The company was also expected to renovate the Outpatient Department-OPD.
Wilson Swalikha, a farmer complained of the hiked prices, saying they are still struggling with COVID-19 and have no money to buy seeds at the exorbitant price.
The mothers say they only have one health center III in Bushiyi Sub County which is far away from their homes. This has forced them to abandon antenatal services.
