Currently the district has safe water coverage of 51%, which is far below the national average of 65%. The most hit sub counties are Logiri and Vurra which have safe water coverage of 42% and 43% respectively.
Under the new system, the district plans to register the details of the taxpayers online and then issue them a regular Payment Advice Slip either through mobile phone or e-mail, which is in turn used to effect the payment through online banking or mobile money services.
Area residents have taken over large portions of the forest reserves to plant food crops while others are involved in illegal logging. Several reserves have also been turned into dumping sites, the most affected being Eruba local forest, Ezuku local forest and Kuluva local forest in Vurra sub-county.
Boniface Okuonzi, a resident of Ajia sub-county says that often, patients have been left stranded and sometimes turned away while seeking treatment at the health facilities due to the absence of the workers.
Sam Wadri Nyaku the Mayor Arua City said the decision by the Ministry of Local Government to remain silent on the issue has affected the operations of the City. He explains that they cannot access some of the movable assets like motor vehicles to facilitate their work in the City.
