The operation followed complaints from residents, especially the business community in the areas of Lusaka, Bujumbura, Kiryatete and Kiganda, all suburbs of Hoima city about rampant thefts and attacks by the suspected criminals in several parts of the city.
The police spokesperson for the Albertine region, Julis Allan Hakiza, in an interview with URN, explains that police would arrest drivers and cyclists who will be found in violation of stipulated traffic regulations.
Speaking to Uganda Radio Network at their Western Regional offices in Hoima town, Samuel Kyomukama, the Head of Enforcement at National Drug Authority, said four people were arrested during the operation. The suspects include a one Bwambale and Wilson Ashaba of Ritz clinic in Nyahuka town council Bundibugyo district.
Pascal Opio, a fisherman attached to Mbegu Landing site in Tonya parish in Buseruka Sub County in Hoima district, says they have lost several fishermen believed to have been thrown by fellow fishermen in the Lake since the BMUs were disbanded.
Robert Mujuni, a representative of fishermen at Kaiso landing site in Buseruka sub county Hoima district also confirms that some Ugandan fishermen bribe Congolese government officials to allow them to operate freely.
