It was announced by Dr. Ruth Nankabirwa Ssentamu, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Development while updating the country on the implementation of the electricity end-user tariffs at the Uganda Media Centre – UMC on Friday.
Eng. Ziria Tibalwa Waako, ERA’s Chief Executive Officer told URN that in the emerging markets of the Independent Power Transmission (IPT) model, a private player develops, finances, builds, and operates a single transmission network asset under a long-term tendered contract.
Irene Batebe, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry revealed that a total investment of about US$20M which will come from both the public and private sector has been earmarked for this fund to enable the public to access upfront capital for clean cooking solutions.
The nine-member delegation led by the Acting Director of Natural Resources, Energy and Mining in Malawi Joseph Kalowekamo, arrived on Monday for a week-long study tour, hosted by Uganda's Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development.
