Most gold from the DRC was smuggled through Uganda and Rwanda and, to a lesser extent, Burundi (some of the gold from South Sudan also transited through Uganda and 60% of the gold from Uganda.
The amount of gold production reported by DGSM is low compared to gold that was exported as reported by Uganda Revenue Authority. DGSM says URA should explain where the extra gold that was exported came from.
Building on a strong foundation for sector governance, stakeholders should prioritize concrete measures to disclose oil, gas, and mining agreements and beneficial ownership information.
