Before his appointment as UNEB Secretary, Bukenya had a distinguished career as an accountant within the board and had retired at the age of 60. However, in 1997, he was called back from retirement to lead UNEB, where he became a household name synonymous with the national examinations.
Due to the recent reconsideration of the bill, the board may face challenges in funding its operations, as the funds initially allocated to them have been reverted to their original budget votes.
Normal registration fees are set at 34,000 shillings for PLE, 164,000 shillings for UCE, and 186,000 shillings for Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE). Late registration for PLE will incur a 100 percent surcharge, while UCE and UACE candidates will face a 50 percent surcharge.
