Museveni, who was speaking to the nation on Saturday as the country marks the World Population Day, noted that 891,000 people have high blood pressure, 534,000 people have heart disease and 229,000 are diabetic.
Speaking at State House Entebbe on Friday to mark the World Population day, Museveni urged all leaders to strengthen community mobilization using local radio stations to educate the masses about these dangerous but preventable diseases.
MP Betty Awol Ochan, a member of the Food security Forum, said that government should emphasize children’s rights to education, health and marriage at the right age. She said this calls for promotion of sex related education and that both the youth in schools and out of school should be targeted.
The United Nations Fund for Populations Activities—UNFPA is calling on the Uganda government to ensure that age-appropriate information and sexuality education is made available in and out of schools.
