Agago District Chairperson Leonard Ojok Opio says that they are working around the clock and engaging the Public Service Commission for an increment in the wage bill to allow them to recruit more staff. He says currently the district has a shortage of close to 500 teachers while the health sector alone requires about 100 staff considering that some health facilities will be elevated from Health Center II to Health Center III.
Dr Paska Apiyo disclosed with the spike in new cases, the unit is being operated by only eight personnel; 4 nurses, a medical doctor and a physician including two cleaners saying work volume has over stretched them.
During the night, patients are expected to provide their own lighting if they can afford to buy kerosene for the lamps. In most cases, the MPs were informed by Dr. Okoth Obbo, the district health officer, that doctors work by phone torch light.
