Kipana was arrested on January 14, 2024, in Murujanjara village within the same sub-county. His arrest followed a public outcry against him for setting up roadblocks at night and demanding bribes from locals while wearing military uniforms.
The suspects include D/ASP Ali Katende, David Kihara Muthoni (28), Samuel Njeru (36), both Kenyan nationals, and Juma Musisi (28). They are accused of stealing 21,600kgs of coffee beans valued at 383 million Uganda Shillings.
A detective involved in the investigation, who requested anonymity, revealed that illegal power connections are often used as campaign tools by some politicians in the Busoga sub-region. These politicians, having failed to fulfill their promises, allegedly support power theft to alleviate pressure from their political opponents.
The warriors, who have been terrorizing the sub-counties of Rupa and Lotisan, had taken a break following security deployment and patrols in hotspot areas, particularly Nakiloro trading center, which led to the arrest of two notorious warriors.
He added: “We have some information that the suspect also fled the country and could be hiding in Kenya. But this world can become small like a box for anyone who is being hunted by the joint intelligence agencies." Enanga noted.
Mpaata's arrest was prompted by an informant who alerted the police about a man in his neighborhood who had illegally detained and tortured an unidentified person to death.
The suspect is Harold Mwesigye (PC Number 64523), and his colleague, who is still at large, is Constable Denis Arinaitwe (PC Number 76519). Both constables were assigned to Kinogozi Police Post in Kikuube District.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson has confirmed the incident saying the hunt for the soldier is on. Hakiza says once arrested, the soldier will be charged with murder and attempted murder respectively.
A detective privy to the investigations told URN on condition of anonymity that the arrest followed the recovery of clothes that were wrapped in a black plastic bag and dumped beside the fish pond. the eventual investigation established that the clothes belonged to one Steven Wabwire and John Kyomya.
Ruto Chepchumba, the Busia county commissioner, says that the suspects will undergo full trial under the Kenyan law on fisheries, adding that they will serve as an example to their colleagues who have become perennial trespassers into Ugandan waters.
The suspects are 57-year-old Mohammed Ngobi, a witch doctor from Kamuli district, Abdullah Kilega, a retail operator from Nansana municipality in Wakiso district, and a teenager, whose particulars have been withheld.
Their arrest followed complaints from residents of Namukooge trading center, in Namugongo sub-county, who allege that the suspects were indoctrinating juveniles between the ages of 5 and 12 in a rented home of Mukyala.
