Citizens Coalition for Electoral Democracy in Uganda CCEDU together with the South Western Institute for Policy and Advocacy SOWIPA have reported widespread political intimidation in the Ruhaama county by-election slated for Thursday.
The Ruhaama County parliamentary seat fell vacant after the death of area legislator William Beijukye Zinkurateire, on November 3. The MP succumbed to Hepatitis B. The EC has up to 60 days after the notification from the Clerk to parliament, to fill the post, which, according to EC acting chairperson Hajjat Aisha Lubega will elapse on January 18.
The seat fell vacant early this month when the Court of Appeal nullified results of the 2016 election, initially won by Andrew Martial. Judges Egonda Ntende, Richard Buteera and Alphonse Owiny Dollo said that irregularities in the voting and tallying stages affected the final results in a substantial manner.
Voters in 95 polling stations in Aruu North County in Pader district go to the polls today to elect a member of parliament. The Aruu North seat fell vacant in February following a Court of Appeal ruling that which overturned the election of Independent candidate Lucy Achiro Otim for non-compliance to electoral laws.

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer Proscovia Oromait Alengont , has been declared the winner of the Usuk County parliamentary by- elections with 11,059 votes, beating her closest rival by 5730 votes.
The other candidates are Robert Bwarare, an independent, FDCâ€™s Odo Tayebwa and Nasser Basajjabalaba of NRM. On Tuesday, three of the candidates launched their campaign with huge rallies in the constituency.
