Court of Appeal Upholds Kashaka's 10-Year Jail Sentence Bicycle Scandal 3

Kashaka’s conviction and sentence were jointly upheld with that of former Principal Accountant Henry Bamutura, Assistant Commissioner in charge of Policy and Planning Sam Emorut Erongot who will serve for 13-years and Adam Aluma, who had been sentenced to 1 year and nine months but has since served the sentence.

Convicted PS John Kashaka Granted Bail

Kashaka won the momentary freedom after challenging a decision by Justice Solomy Balungi Bossa who denied him bail in September, 2014 on grounds that his health and advanced age of 60years did not constitute exceptional circumstances to warrant his release on bail.

State Objects to Kashaka's Bail Application

Senior state attorney Josephine Namatovu asked court to decline to release Kashaka on bail arguing that Kashaka has not adduced sufficient reasons to justify his temporary release on bail pending the hearing and determination of his appeal. Namatovu also argued that there is no evidence to support Kashaka’s plea that he is of advanced age. She further argued that Kashaka had not adduced evidence to prove that Luzira prison is unable to treat his chronic Hepatitis ailment.

Kashaka, 5 Others Convicted Over LC Bicycle Scam lc bicycle scandal

Interdicted permanent secretary of local government ministry John Muhanguzi Kashaka has been convicted by the Anti-Corruption Court and sent to Luzira Prison over the bungled purchase of 70,000 bicycles. Presiding Judge Catherine Bamugemereire said she will pronounce her sentence on Thursday.
