Banabas Langoya, the District Education Officer DEO explains that up to 55 government aided primary schools out of 68 in the district did not record a single first grade. Up to 2,587 candidates sat for Primary Leaving Exams - PLE in 2018.
He pledged to engage the president on all the issues raised by teachers through their body for redress. The Kabarole district LC V chairman, Richard Rwabuhinga appreciated the fact that government has constructed classroom blocks in some schools.
Eva Namusoke, a teacher from St. Kizito Maluvule Primary School is one of the teachers who was rewarded. She explained that the award is testament of the good work that teachers do.
Aggrey David Kibenge, the Under Secretary Ministry of Education says the ministry doesnt condone such behavior. He however, says unless school heads report such behavior, the ministry cannot know what is happening in schools across the country.
According to the agreement, the money would be released in five installments for five years. Each year, teachers were expected to receive five billion shillings.
In the letter, Alupo acknowledges receiving part of the money from the president. She however did not reveal how much has already been released. However according to officials from the teachers’ union, up to four billion shillings has already been disbursed.
At Teso College Aloet the students were seen loitering around the compound. At St. Mary’s girls SS in Northern Division and Soroti SS a few students turned up.
President Museveni, in this financial year, allocated 5 billion shillings to teachers inform of SACCO money to help them carry out personal development. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has ordered the Minister for Education Jessica Alupo to find a 20% salary increment for teachers in the next two weeks. The declaration comes as a surprise as less than a week ago, President Museveni insisted that he would not grant teachers the full 20% promised salary increment.
Following the NRM’s Caucus resolution on Monday this week to increase teacher’s salaries by 4% instead of the promised 20% increment by government in this Financial Year, MP Amuriat Oboi Patrick has described the suggestion as an insult.
Worn out by several failed negotiations, teachers have given government 90 days within which to honour their promise to increase their salaries by 20 percent.
