Kadaga observed that the national taskforce is currently concentrating its’ food aid campaigns in the areas of Kampala and Wakiso, while sidelining other equally starving communities throughout the country.
The food will be distributed to persons whose livelihood was affected by measures put in place by the government to control the spread of Coronavirus Disease. Some of it will go the needy members of the community.
In the case of Uganda, inadequate and erratic rainfall coupled with an overflow from conflicts in neighboring countries is posing a growing threat to food security. It indicates that while Uganda is still grappling with the lingering effects of two consecutive seasons of reduced agricultural output, it has a task to feed a population of more than 1.5 million refugees coming in mainly from South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Vincent Muhindo, the Bundibugyo District Community Development Secretary, says apart from sensitizing the public to vacate landslide prune areas, the district lacks capacity to handle the situation, adding that they dont have any budget to handle disasters.
The Lwengo Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Grace Kaboyo and District Chairperson George Mutabazi have disagreed on how to distribute over 10,000 kilograms of maize flour and 8000 kilograms of beans that were given to the area as relief aid from the Prime Ministerâ€™s office.
