Muhammad Mubiru, the Principal Administrator says that the stock out is due to the high demand of the hepatitis B vaccine. He however says that the hospital management has requested for more supplies from the National Medical Stores.
Dr. Godfrey Mulekwa, the Pallisa District Health Officer, says the mass hepatitis vaccination stems from samples showing the prevalence of the disease stands in the district stands at between 10 and 15 percent.
Moroto district health officer, Dr Abubaker Lubega, may be in trouble after the Hepatitis B vaccines worth 900 million shillings expired in the stores. Information obtained by URN indicates that 18,000 doses of Hepatitis B vaccines were exposed to high temperatures leading to their expiry.
The verification exercise by the Ministry of Finance in April 2016 indicates that the Health ministry failed to procure anti-retroviral drugs for treatment of people who have tested positive with the virus, estimated at 3.5 million.
