Gulu Municipality wants to extend her border into the Gulu and Omoro districts to achieve a population requirement of 500,000 people, from the current 350,000 in order to be declared a city by Parliament in July this year.
Now, Lyandro Komakech, the Gulu Municipality and Member of DP, says the party is considering private prosecution because of the strengths of the private prosecutor to have more control over the proceedings and gain a faster turnaround and final outcome.
Lutukumoi however, says he was convinced to return to his party after the grand DP reunion on August 3, 2018 because the party leaders have taken laudable steps to address the trivial conflicts that had always bedeviled Ugandas oldest party. He told URN in an email that as he waits to make an official return to DP, his heart; mind and soul have never left the party despite joining government.
Sheik Rashid Bajaruta, the chairperson of Acholi Muslim Cemetery Committee, says the exercise will last one and half month. He says the relics are being buried in mass graves of between 20 to 30 bodies at Lawiye Adul village in Bungatira.
Residents of Gulu Municipality will have to wait another four months before the start of major road repairs on the streets of Gulu town now slated for December this year. Francis Barabanawe, the town clerk of Gulu Municipality says the 6.6-kilometre road stretch will cover 21 streets in the heart of Gulu town.
The grant will be used to improve up to 6.7 kilometers of municipal council roads in Gulu municipality that are currently in a sorry state. Most of these are murram roads that attract vast dust during sunny seasons and mud during rainy seasons. Others have been impassable due to multitudes of potholes.
Gulu leaders are optimistic that Gulu municipality can attain a city status since it will now embark on developing its infrastructure following the donation of 9 billion Uganda shillings by the World Bank.
