Edward Ssebukyu, the Assistant Commissioner of Private Schools and institutions, says the decision is aimed at cleaning up the private secondary school’s register and update information on all schools across the country.
Their ignorance of the curriculum could easily be seen today during a meeting with NCDC officials. The meeting took place today afternoon at the Uganda Manufacturers Association conference hall where the Senior Five school selection process is currently ongoing.
Patrick Kaboyo, the National Secretary Federation of Non-State Education Institutions FENEI contends that money is fleeced from parents to pay hidden, illegal costs including coaching, high rated school trips, as well as costs for campaigns for the children at school in case they are vying for positions of leadership.
Nathan Ahimbisibwe, the Buhweju district chief Administrative officer, says that some of the schools had no toilet facilities and classrooms. Ahimbisibwe says that the decision to close the schools was taken by the education department in consultation with his office.
David Angulo, the proprietor of United Skill Technical Institute and Vocational School, a private learning institution in Lira town has been arrested by the police for turning a female student into a housemaid.
Manshur Suwed, the Central North regional police spokesperson, said the boys' dormitory had been very poorly built and not fit for human habitation. The school had used wobbly wooden triple decker beds which put student lives at risk. The school was also using some of the dormitories as study areas during day time.
