The COSASE standoff started after a suggestion that the current committee, headed by Bugweri County MP Abdul Katuntu should complete the probe into the irregular sale and closure of Commercial banks, before handing over to a new team. The tenure of the current committee expires on January 13, 2019.
On Monday, President Yoweri Museveni faulted the manner in which the committee is conducting its investigation before the media. The President was of the view that the procedure being used is wrong advising that investigations should be confidentially handled.
Abdu Katuntu, the Chairperson of the Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises COSASE said he received this morning informing him that Bagyenda had flown abroad to attend to some engagements, which she confirmed long before the probe.
The Court of Appeal has today upheld the election of Abdul Katuntu as Bugweri County Member of Parliament. The court dismissed a petition by Daniel Ibaale who had prayed for a vote recount due to marginal difference between the two candidates. Katuntu was declared winner of the seat in February last year with 23,596 votes against Ibaales 23,195 votes.
Katuntu warned that once Aronda is approved, the country will revert to the period before 1995 in that the President could choose the entire army to run the country like it was before 1995.
