The Buganda Kingdom Lukiiko on Monday received and approved a 121 billion Shillings Budget for the financial year 2019/2020. The budget is up from that of 108 billion for the last financial year 2018/2019.
The comments come a day after the 33rd anniversary of the NRM Liberation, commemorating the day in 1986 when fighters of the National Resistance Army, led by Yoweri Museveni overthrew the military Junta led by Gen Tito Okello Lutwa.
The Kabaka observed that the Kingdom has a challenge to help its people embrace gainful agriculture and related fields that would boost household incomes. He was opening the 22nd Buganda Lukiiko at Bulange Mengo this morning.
According to estimates presented to the Buganda Lukiiko at Bulange-Mengo, Buganda Land Board will generate Ugx 1.4billion, Ugx 229million Schools is expected from schools while another 278milllion is expected from Kingdom Ministries. Tenants will contribute Ugx 538million to the treasury, 350million is expected from grants while Ugx 588million will be collected from the Kingdom’s companies.
Buganda Finance Minister Eva Nagawa Mukasa says that the collections were received from; Buganda Twezimbe project which sourced Ugx 3.4billion, Buganda Land Board with a collection of Ugx 10.3billion and Certificate project with Ugx 469m into the kingdom’s treasury. Other sources were; the Agriculture Ministry with Ugx 33m and Joint Ventures with Companies which raised Ugx 238m among other sources.
Buganda Kingdom finance minister has tabled a 9.64 Billion shillings budget for six months running from January to June 2014 of the financial year 2013/2014.
Mayiga noted that Buganda has oftentimes partnered with corporate companies to implement key ceremonies in the kingdom but through a non formal arrangement. This arrangement will now be formalized to allow companies advertise during kingdom ceremonies at an agreed cost.
Mayiga told the Buganda Lukiiko that UGX 1.45billion has been received since the launch of the fundraising drive. Out of this UGX 883.6million has been spent on ongoing reconstruction works at Kasubi Royal tombs. There were however bounced cheques of UGX 5.5million.
