An online petition calling for Minister Kibuuleâ€™s resignation over his reckless comments on rape victims has already gathered close to 500 signatures three hours after it was started. Speaker Kadaga has also asked the minister to make a formal apology to the Ugandan public over the statements he made over the weekend.
Police in Kibaale have arrested a 27-year-old man for raping a woman who had come to buy soap from his shop. Police believe the increase in rape cases in the district is due to drug abuse that has become rampant. The victim was a breastfeeding mother.
The Uganda Police Force is yet to construct a fully-fledged clinic where they carry out examinations on victims of assault and currently have to rely on government health centres and on doctors in private practice.
